Romans 8:25
"But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently."

We hope for the glory to be revealed to us in eternity, and we wait for it patiently. We must persevere and go on, believing that it will happen. We must also believe that there will be a Church for those peoples who don’t yet have one in their cultural sphere. Can we persevere and eagerly work until every Muslim, Buddhist, Sikh, Animistic, and Hindu people group has a church community of its own? Some well-meaning Christians-even some deeply involved in missions-have expressed doubts about our ability to cross the political and cultural frontiers separating the unreached peoples from the gospel.

Pray for more missionaries and leaders who will hope for what we do not yet have-a Church for every people!

Sikhs in Canada

Badasha was ticketed for not wearing a motorcycle helmet. N.S. Bassi of the Saskatchewan Roughriders wears a patka, a Sikh head covering, while playing football. K. Singh Sahota may lose his job because he insists on wearing a turban at work. Devout Sikhs are required to wear turbans. The name Singh (lion) identifies all three of these ethnic Punjabis as Sikhs.

These Canadian Sikhs are part of a larger world-wide South-Asian Punjabi diaspora. Punjabis may be Hindu, Muslim or Sikh. Sikhism, dating to the 16th century, is a monotheistic mixture of Islam and Hinduism, with its own Scriptures, temples and rituals. Sikhs have been in Canada since the 1800s. Today they live in the Prairie Provinces, Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. B.C. has some 250,000 Sikhs employed in construction, lumber, professional sports, and farming.

World-wide, fewer than one percent of the Sikhs have become followers of Christ. Their youth are increasingly becoming secular and socially alienated. In Canada, there are three Punjabi fellowships in the province of B.C. Sikhs need to know that Christ’s atonement provides the only cover they need. They should become a part of the pride of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.

Pray for the efforts of John Tobin, a missionary to Sikhs in B.C. Pray that God would use community problems to open Sikhs to the answers Christ offers. Pray that God will raise up Punjabi believers to evangelize Sikhs in Canada.-TP
