Romans 8:5
"Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires."

Our world abounds in things of the flesh which compete with the things of the Spirit for our attention. Television, magazines, and the Internet-not inherently bad in themselves-often contain material which takes our minds away from the Spirit and onto the things of the flesh. One major reason for this Global Prayer Digest is to help us to set our minds on the things of the Spirit. We daily read of God’s concern for all nations, what He has done in the past for them, what He is doing now, and what still needs to be done to bring the gospel to every one of them.

Ask God to help you keep your mind on the things of the Spirit today-including prayer for the unreached peoples!

Muslim Memons in Canada

Humble beginnings do not necessarily determine ultimate destinations. From a few dusty desert villages in Pakistan’s Sindh Province comes one of the world’s most prosperous business communities. Many years ago their forefathers enlarged and expanded their small weaving and handloom industries to East Africa. They settled in Mombasa, Kenya and made it a hub of Memon activity. But like their ancestors, many ventured to other lands with a goodly number settling in Canada. Canada continues to be a land of great opportunities for this business-savvy community.

In Canada they have formed their own community organization to deal with social issues, community affairs, even sports and youth events. They drew up a constitution and registered with the Canadian government as a non-profit, charitable organization.

They usually marry within their same social affiliation. Most of the time Memon parents arrange for their children’s marriages. Often these parents spend their entire life savings on the couple.

Even though they are pleased with their social and humanitarian efforts, and they have excelled in business and professional efforts, they need to know that God’s ultimate purpose for them is still missing. Memons follow Sunni Islam. To them, Jesus is a great prophet, not the bread of life.

Pray that Memons in Canada will understand God’s purpose for them and give themselves over to His lordship. Pray that Memons in Canada will surrender to Christ and go as His ambassadors to those in Africa and South Asia.-MH
