Acts 11:19-20
"Now those who had been scattered...traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, telling the message only to Jews. Some of them, however...went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also."

In a similar fashion, isn’t preoccupation with “our own kind of people” the norm today? The vast majority of full-time Christian workers are minis-tering to those of their own culture who are already at least nominally Christians. Certainly these people need to hear the gospel clearly, as did the Jews of the i rst century. But how much more do those peoples who know only a shred of the truth deserve full-time workers among them?

Let us rededicate ourselves to the task of telling the good news of Christ’s resurrection to those unreached peoples who have yet to hear this miraculous story.

Shi’ite Muslim Persians (Iranians) in the U.K.

In 2008, a London newspaper said, “Britain has granted asylum to Mehdi Kazemi, a gay Iranian student who faced deportation from the United Kingdom and feared execution in Iran for being homosexual.” Kasemi had moved to London several years earlier to study English, but later discovered that his boyfriend had been arrested by Iranian police, charged with sodomy and hanged. Fearing the same fate, he applied for asylum in Britain, but was initially denied it in 2007.

Persian young people, gay or otherwise, faced rigid restrictions and prohibitions in Iran where the country is Shi’ite Muslim, radical in its adherence to Islamic law and principles. Yearning for freedom from control, many Iranian youth “push the envelope” in their own country as they adopt some of the worst of the Western world’s deviant and promiscuous behaviors. If discovered by their families and authorities, their behaviors would bring harsh repercussions and even death.

This same desire “to be free” affects the Persian youth in the U.K. where 78,330 Persians live. As Persian youth are seeking something other than Islamic fundamentalism, let us offer them freedom through Christ.

Pray for God to encourage the small number of Muslim Persians in the U.K. who have put their faith in Christ. Ask the Holy Spirit to open the hearts of Muslim Persians so they will be open to the claims of Jesus. Pray that God will reveal Himself to them through dreams, visions and through Christian resources.-JS
