Can you relate to what Simon Peter was saying here? I’m sure that many missionaries can. There are times when it really doesn’t seem that the fields are ripe for the harvest, but instead, we are wasting our time. Years may go by before someone working among an unreached people group might see visible fruit from their work. Experienced missionaries tell us that it sometimes takes more than 15 years to plant a church among an unreached people group! Sometimes the Lord is waiting for one more attempt or one more prayer before He begins to pour out His Spirit. Are you willing to let down the nets one more time?
Pray that missionaries among the unreached peoples will not grow weary, but will persevere.
Friendship evangelism is working in Moscow! The period of the last 15 years has seen Moscow’s Muslim immigrant population from Central Asia grow from one percent to 20 percent of the city’s population, and it is predicted that Muslims may account for a majority of Moscow’s population by mid-century. Two main factors account for this explosion. The Russians have a low birth rate. Secondly, there is a rush of young Central Asian men searching for a better life in Moscow. They usually work in low-paying jobs that Russians do not want.
These immigrants are usually ostracized or marginalized by their Russian neighbors as well as by the Orthodox Church. Daniel Powell (name changed), a strategist for the International Mission Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptists says, “Russians in Moscow do not treat Muslims well…. If Muslims are shown friendship, they will respond.” At present the Southern Baptists have no long-term teams working among Muslim immigrants of Moscow. However they do have short term teams who distribute tracts and do prayer walks in the neighborhoods. They also meet people and befriend them. Powell adds, “Southern Baptists excel at such a ministry. They know how to love people.”Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray for more funding to print Bibles that can be read by Central Asian Muslims in their heart languages. Pray for experienced long-term IBM workers from Central Asia to initiate church-planting work in Moscow.-JS
