Amos 3:2
"'You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your sins.'"

Because Israel was entrusted with great blessings, her mandate was equally great: to bless all the families of the earth. When the chosen nation rebelled in selfishness and idolatry, her punishment was correspondingly severe. But is it not the same for us? Jesus declared, “From everyone who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked” (Luke 12:48). We who know Jesus Christ and who have the means to take the blessings of the gospel to the ends of the earth are obligated by our opportunities to do so.

Thank our Gracious God for our blessings, and acknowledge the responsibility they place upon us. Pray that He will keep us from the sins of selfishness and self-indulgence.

Air Tuareg People

The Tuareg man pulled his tidjelmoust (veil) over his face as he approached the foreign missionary who was visiting his nomadic camp. In direct contrast to Arab custom, the men, not the women wear veils to show respect while in the presence of foreigners or their in-laws.

The 246,700 nomadic Tuaregs of Niger are all Sunni Muslims, but they practice a tainted form of Islam infused with magic and superstition. They wear protective charms and believe in jinnis, spirits capable of assuming human or animal forms and exercising supernatural influence over them.

The Air Tuaregs live in the Air region of Niger and are primarily nomadic shepherds who move throughout the year to find grazing land for their flocks. They have a highly complex social structure that includes upper and lower classes, and even slaves.

All Tuareg subgroups are well known for ichumer, a genre of guitar music popular among young Tuaregs in Mali and Niger. Originally the music was forbidden because it criticized colonial and post-colonial domination and warned of threats to the Tuareg’s cultural survival. These rebel songs are now performed in live “rock-style” venues.

There are eight mission agencies targeting Tuareg communities, and they have few resources.

Pray that the JESUS film will soon be available in their language. Pray for God to take authority over the spiritual principalities and powers that are keeping the Tuaregs bound. Pray that music can be a medium to share the gospel with them.-JS
