Author Don Richardson has employed the phrase “eternity in their hearts” as the title of his thrilling account of God’s redemptive activity among the peoples of the earth. Richardson has discovered evidence of the knowledge of the One True Creator God in the ancient stories and legends of people groups from every continent on earth. Yet these stories, and the yearnings for eternal truth they express, are not sufficient to lead men and women to saving faith in Jesus Christ. “How can they hear without a preacher?” Paul asks. “And how can they preach except they be sent?”
Pray that the Lord will sharpen our sensitivity to pray for those who need Jesus.
More than a decade of conflict has seriously disrupted economic and social life in Somalia. Harvest failure, droughts and flooding have resulted in persistent malnutrition as well. Only 28 percent of the population has a safe water supply and there is an outbreak of cholera every year. Diarrhea, respiratory infections and malaria account for more than half of all child deaths, and Somalia remains among the countries with the highest incidences of TB in the world.
One of the peoples affected by all this tragedy are the Muslim Dabarres. They are primarily farmers, but their agriculture is organized on a unique system of mutual help work-parties. Men are recruited from the village, and are presided over by a chief, who is given gifts and coffee. Anytime the chief calls, the men must respond. These work-parties cultivate the land of their members who must pay them a fee and feed them as well. Each Dabarre village is ruled by a council of elders made up of men from each family. These councils make all decisions regarding business with other villages.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that these councils will accept and endorse Christian radio broadcasts, the JESUS Film, and other evangelistic material. Pray for sensitive Christian workers to share the gospel, as well as for humanitarian aid for the needy Dabarres. Pray for a government in Somalia that will respect the rights of their citizens and protect the innocent.-MH
