Where there is no revelation of God’s law, people cast off the restraints that govern social behavior. Where God’s Word and Christ’s Church are not resident, the uninhibited forces of sin and selfishness ravage peoples and societies. But where messengers of good news have come to proclaim and demonstrate the way of love, and where men and women have congregated in believing fellowships, salt and light combat the decay and darkness.
Pray for His holiness to prevail. Pray for the unreached nations to be drawn to His revelation, so that sin will be cast off, and the nations set free to obey Him.
Africa’s humanitarian crises lead me to think of the myriad of Christian ministries trying to respond: Orphanages, HIV/AIDS clinics, hospitals, food distribution, and many more. I also picture celebrities like Bono, Madonna, Oprah and Angelina Jolie contributing to solutions. But there is another hero in this fight: a Cutchi Hindu in Kenya, Prabhudas D. Pattni. Among his many contributions to Kenyan society is “pioneering work in awareness creation in HIV/AIDS for Hindus in Kenya.”
The Cutchi communities in Kenya trace their roots to Gujarat, India. They include both Hindu and Muslim communities. The Hindu portion prides itself on its education and contributing to the betterment of society. Pattni cites courage, craftsmanship and philanthropy as their hallmarks. Courage led some to give their lives protecting other towns. Philanthropy spurs giving generously to community projects. Cutchi Hindus see craftsmanship as a gift from the goddess Mataji.
From the human perspective only, the Cutchi peoples of Kenya have every right to feel proud of their efforts to improve their society. But how can they discover that these good works will not obtain eternal life? How can they call on the only Provider of life unless they hear? And how can they hear without someone to tell them?Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will raise workers to cross the cultural divide and share Christ with Cutchi Hindus and Muslims. Pray that the Holy Spirit will stir dissatisfaction within their spirits so that they will seek the source of eternal life.-EF
