Psalms 119: 162
"I rejoice in Your promise like one who finds great spoil."

Grab a piece of paper and write down a list of God’s promises. He has given us many precious promises, all of which are far great than “great spoil.” He has given us an abundant life in the here and now, and the blessings of forgiveness and eternal fellowship with Him. What delightful promises for us to enjoy! To those who don’t know Him, however, He offers eternal separation, without forgiveness. Are we willing to take His promises to those who don’t know of them?

Pray for His promises to reach the nations we pray for this month. Pray that His promises will be understood by the nations as far greater than any “spoil” this world has to offer.

Burkara Jews of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan

The son of a leader in the Burkara Jewish Cultural Center was attacked and hospitalized. Just days later, the leader of the Burkara Jews in Tashkent, Uzbekistan was murdered. These are only two of the recent attacks against Burkara Jews. Yet the chairman of the Uzbek Committee for Religious Affairs assures, “There is no anti-Semitism in Uzbekistan.”

Despite this claim, the Burkara Jews in Uzbekistan face a real and persistent threat of persecution. Not only are they victims of hate crimes, but they must endure and overcome many long-standing economic and social prejudices.

At one time they were restricted to specially designated areas of cities known as mahallas. Though they have greater freedom today, the Burkara Jews are increasingly the targets of violence. As a response to their relative freedom from Russia after the demise of the USSR, people living in former Soviet republics are becoming more nationalistic, and in some cases, more anti-Jewish. Ironically, some Burkara Jews are assimilating with Uzbeks and Tajiks as more and more of their youth choose to intermarry with these Muslim peoples.

Pray for harvest laborers to be sent to the Burkaras of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Ask God to not only protect them, but enable them to recognize and embrace Jesus as their Messiah before they pass into an eternity apart from Him. Pray for Burkara believers to glorify His Name in Uzbekistan and beyond.-CL
