Josh. 13:1
"When Joshua was old and well advanced in years, the Lord said to him, 'You are very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over.'"

On the one hand, Joshua could have responded to this observation with discouragement. He had fought so long, and yet there was still so much to do. But God wanted the next generation of the Hebrew nation to participate in the excitement of His miracles. Today, there are about 600 Bible-believing congregations for every unreached people group. Is the job do-able?

Pray for the Church to rise to the occasion of finishing up the task in this generation.

Kalandar People

“Police raid! Grab the bears and run!” Guddu shouted to his neighbors. A day earlier Guddu and his nomadic Kalandar group had found a place to camp off the road behind a slum area. They made a path into the forest for quick escape if there should be a police raid. Now they quickly led their bears out of their pits, and ran into the forest until it should be safe to do their bear show in another village.

The 55,000 Kalandar people have made their living for generations by traveling town-to-town exhibiting the dancing bears they have captured and trained in their forests. But now there are laws that make this endeavor illegal, so they have to be careful not to be caught.

Peaceful, with large families, these tribal people are in a serious period of change. Those who have lost their bears are relegated to scavenging garbage, pulling rickshaws and other forms of meager earning. The government is trying to retrain them when they turn in their bears, but pride in their bear-training heritage has caused many to continue this trade on the sly.

Pray that God might use this time of flux to open doors for the evangelization of the Kalandar people. Pray that missionaries might meet the Kalandars’ basic human needs through job training or schooling, and share the precious gospel with these nomads.-PE
