How easy it is for us to be caught up in trivial affairs. God wants our vision to be fixed on what is eternally meaningful-proclaiming and demonstrating that He is King, and living with heaven in view. God delights in His children who dream His dreams after Him. Are your dreams too small? Hundreds of years ago Francis Xavier urged his college companions, “Give up your small ambitions and come to India!”
O God, give us the eyes of faith to see both the joys of heaven and the opportunities of earth.
The young Sindhi couple gave each other golden rings to announce their engagement as both of their families watched. They wear the rings on their fourth fingers, because Sindhi legend teaches that a blood vein runs from that finger straight into the heart. By wearing rings on the fourth finger, the couple believes they are making their love eternal. They choose rings made of gold because, according to Sindhi legend, gold is an eternal metal. The couple believes wearing gold makes their relationship eternal as well.
The Sindhis are a wealthy people group living in India and Pakistan. They often make their living through commerce. They also have a natural talent for learning languages and frequently get into translation work. In 1947 the independence of India and Pakistan from colonial Britain split this people group in two. Persecution forced the Hindu Sindhis to flee Muslim Pakistan for the safety of Hindu India. The Muslim Sindhis still live in Pakistan, and they are far less prosperous than the Hindu Sindhis. There are almost no Christians in either community.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that both Sindhi people groups will come in contact with the Lover of their Souls, Jesus Christ. Ask God to break the hold that Hinduism, Islam and materialism have on the Sindhis. Pray that God will raise up the right people to reach out to this people group.-WK
