1 Timothy 2:1-2
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone-for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives ...."

Political leaders have tough jobs. Ours is not an easy world to rule, with competing factions, complex political structures, fluctuating economic conditions, explosive population growth, and increasing violence. Paul’s encouragement to pray for our political leaders should remind us of the crucial role they often play in the spread of the gospel throughout their realms of influence.

Pray that the Lord will turn the hearts of rulers in many “closed countries” to Himself to allow for an open door for the gospel message.

Baima People of China

Jasmine brought green tea to her mother, who was just getting out of bed at 10:00. “I made it extra strong for you,” she said, handing the steaming cup to her mother. As the woman gulped down the greenish-brown tea, her daughter looked at her with a crooked smile on her face. Finally Jasmine spoke up. “I’m very glad that we get two new years celebrations. It’s fun to celebrate Chinese New Year, then the Baima new year two weeks later.” Her mother groaned and finished her tea.

Jasmine continued, “But you just spent last night at the new years dance with the shamans. They beat the drums and played cymbals till you had a headache, and this morning you are exhausted. Do you really think they managed to drive all the evil spirits out of our village just because they marched out of town wearing masks? And if they really get rid of the demons, why do they have to do this every year?”

Baima youths like Jasmine are doubting the power of their traditional rituals, but they still walk in spiritual darkness. There is a Baima Church, but it is still young and weak.

Pray that all generations of Baimas will see the emptiness of traditional rituals, and realize that only Christ can deliver them from demons. Pray for the fruit of the Holy Spirit to dwell in Baima church leaders, so they can glorify His Name among the Animistic majority.-KC
