Ephesians 6:12
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

We fool ourselves if we think world evangelization is simply a task requiring more effort. The proclamation of God’s Kingdom is a frontal attack on rebel-controlled territory that will meet Satan’s fiercest resistance and opposition. The battle is essentially spiritual, and those who engage in the conflict must be equipped with the spiritual armor Paul describes. If you intend to involve yourself in the battle-as a sender, mobilizer, missionary or in any other capacity-be prepared for attacks greater than you’ve ever experienced before.

Lord, give us wisdom and protection as we enter into spiritual conflict.

Japanese People in Thailand

“Japan is a spiritual vacuum. If you do not fill it with Christianity, it will be filled with communism. Send me 1,000 missionaries.” (Gen. Douglas MacArthur at the end of World War II). America did not send enough workers. Although nominally Buddhist, many Japanese have since become obsessed with materialistic pleasures, careers and possessions.

Many Japanese have moved to Thailand because it provides an offshore base for their export-oriented industries. Their lives rotate around business and pleasure. Some Japanese have been drawn to Thailand for four main reasons: both countries are monarchies; their common religion is Buddhism; they have never been at war with each other; and there is little red tape for investors. There are over 900 Japanese companies in Thailand. These have produced 300,000 jobs and improved Thailand’s economic growth. However, Thailand is paying a high price for this growth. Japanese companies and factories have greatly contributed to air and water pollution. Many Thai feel economically exploited, resenting the failure of the Japanese to train and promote Thais into management positions.

Pray for 1,000 dedicated and culturally-sensitive missionaries to take the gospel to the Japanese and other Buddhist people groups in Thailand. Pray that the many Christian agencies operating freely in Thailand would target Japanese businessmen and share Christ with them. Pray that God will remove the blinders from Japanese eyes so that they will take their spiritual lives seriously. “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul” (Mark 8:36, KJV).-JS
