Taking the gospel to a people who have never heard it is demanding-physically, mentally, emotionally and most of all spiritually. Yet the harvest comes only after months and years of sowing seed. Satan’s major weapons-discouragement, division, disease and delay-are often aimed at those who labor on the front lines of the advance of the gospel. The apostle Paul needed the prayers of the saints. How much more do the frontier missionaries of today!
Pray for those missionaries you know who are taking the gospel to those who have never heard. Pray that they will not “become weary in doing good.”
The Golden Palaung people live in fear of hell and demonic forces, which they believe live in trees and rocks. They blame illness on evil spirits. Malaria is rampant near rivers and brooks; many children die from it. Hundreds of years ago, each of their villages had its own shaman or spirit-doctor. Today the leading Buddhist monk and even ordinary people offer a variety of sacrifices to appease the evil spirits. In addition to spirits, they have five traditional enemies: fire, flood, famine, plague and government.
There are 200,000 Golden Palaungs who live in Myanmar’s Shan state, along with other Palaung sub-groups. A cluster of about 15,000 Golden Palaungs live in the town of Namshan.
The Golden Palaungs believe that they were once brothers with the Karen peoples, but an ancient dispute separated the two groups. Today some Golden Palaungs have an opening on one side of their houses to welcome the Karen people to return and live together again.
A mere 0.2 percent of Golden Palaungs are Christians of any denomination; 96 percent are professing Buddhists. They have no Scripture, no JESUS Film and no Christian broadcasting in their language.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray for Christian linguists to translate gospel cassettes, radio broadcasts, the JESUS Film and the Bible into the Golden Palaung language. Pray especially for Palaung leaders to receive Christ as lord, so that others may follow their example. Pray that God will use Karen believers to bring reconciliation between their tribes and the Palaung peoples, and more importantly, between the Palaungs and Christ.-JWS
