Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

This verse is the gospel in a nutshell! Our sin has separated us from the Creator, resulting in eternal death. But eternal life is offered through Christ Jesus! This eternal life is a free gift to all who will receive it. But we must remember that it wasn’t free for Christ; it cost Him death on the cross. We must freely, willingly and zealously offer God’s gift to the unreached. The Great Commission may cost us our money, our children, or our church leaders, but obedience is the only reasonable response to God’s wonderful love.

Thank the Father for His gift of eternal life through Christ. Pray that He will give us the courage and selflessness to do whatever it takes to offer His gift to the unreached.

Kunama People in the United States

The young and the old sat in rapt attention as the speaker showed pictures and explained about running water, electricity and even bathroom seats. This group of Kunama refugees from Eritrea was in a five-day orientation program preparing them for their first months in the U.S. The training was being conducted in the Shimelba Refugee Camp in bordering Ethiopia. These were the first of 700 refugees approved for resettlement in the U.S. who had been displaced by Ethiopia’s and Eritrea’s 1998-2000 border war.

The Kunama’s traditional home, often called the “breadbasket of Eritrea” was in the middle of the disputed area in the war. Many fled to Ethiopia and were confined in refugee camps and denied the opportunity to work. In September, 2007 the first 700 were airlifted to their new homes in Alabama, Florida, Nevada, and Washington. These traditionally nomadic people are facing enormous cultural hurdles as they acculturate to their new environs. Mostly herders and farmers, they have limited skills. Some are Christians and others are Muslims, but they are not known to be very devout.

Pray for local churches to embrace these displaced people, to provide work opportunities and ESL and cultural classes. Pray that in befriending them they can share the news about their best friend, Jesus.-JS
