Immediately after Peter and John healed the crippled man at the entrance to the temple, Peter seized the opportunity for an evangelistic message. He quickly reviewed for his Jewish audience God’s plan in sending the Messiah and reminded them of what the prophets had said about Him. Then he affirmed to his listeners, “You are the heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with our fathers.”
Lord Jesus, we acknowledge that we, too, are sons and daughters of Abraham through faith in You. Bless the unreached peoples through our faith and obedience.
Eyes wide with horror, the Burmese family watched the news. They saw soldiers open fire on Buddhist monks marching in the streets of Rangoon, protesting the lack of freedom in Myanmar. Seeing this, the father thanked Buddha they had safely escaped the horrors of that country to start a new life in London, England. “We must now pray for the monks,” he said. Everyone nodded.
There are 12,000 Burmese living in Great Britain. The exodus began in 1960 when the Burmese army overthrew the democratic government of what was then called Burma and is now called Myanmar. Since 1960 Myanmar has been ruled by a series of generals, many of them brutal dictators. Today Myanmar is one of the world’s 10 worst violators of human rights; terror comes from the top.
Myanmar is a closed country, and Buddhism is the state religion. All missionaries were expelled decades ago. Most Burmese are Buddhists and only those who live outside of their homeland can openly hear the gospel.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will open the hearts of this people group to the message of salvation. Ask God to break the hold Buddhism has on the Burmese, and replace it with a hunger for righteousness that can only come from Christ.-WK
