Here Jesus answered the question, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” (v. 6). He said that the times and the dates for His return are known only by the Father. Two things we do know, however. We will receive the power of the Holy Spirit, and by that power we will be His witnesses, beginning where we are and moving out to the ends of the earth. Let us yield ourselves fully to this commission, empowered by His Spirit until men and women from every nation acknowledge Jesus as Lord. Then His Kingdom will come with fullness and glory.
Father, move in us by the power of Your Holy Spirit to give witness to Your glory and grace.
(This is the story of a woman who grew up in South Africa and became a missionary to Muslim women in England, as told by David Bliss, missionary to South Africa)
My name is Rose Shimati. I was born in the mid 1940s in South Africa. My mother, Rachel, was a godly woman who understood and practiced the love of Christ. She took a keen interest in teaching me. It was through her training and the township churches that I came to know about the Lord Jesus.
But I wasn’t interested in my mother’s faith, and did many things that upset her. One night my mother, who was always very gentle and loving towards me, asked me to go to hear an evangelist who had set up a tent in our area. There would be music and singing, she said. As the minister preached that night, I was convicted of sin and turned my life over to Jesus Christ.
When I came home and told my mother I had given my life to Christ, she immediately said I should go to Bible school. I was about 28 or 29 at that time. Some time later, I left home for a Bible College, which was hundreds of kilometers away. (Continued tomorrow)Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray for God to direct the training for today’s missionary candidates.
