John 21:6
"Throw out your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some."

John’s gospel ends with an account that in many ways gives us a vivid picture of Jesus’ commission. The obedience of the disciples to Jesus’ word not only gave them a great catch of fish, but also opened their eyes to recognize Him. In that recognition was deep fellowship. And out of that fellowship, as it did for Peter, comes our commission to feed and care for others. Let us renew our lives afresh to Christ’s great cause of revealing His love to all the peoples of the earth. Master, we want to know You and follow You.

Reveal Yourself afresh to us as we bring Your revelation to others.

Uighur People in Russia and China

The early morning sun streamed through a skylight, waking the Uighur man from his comfortable sleep atop a bed of heated bricks. He donned his long robe and ducked through the doorway. Grain drying on the flat roof was assurance that his family would have enough food for the week. Like his father, he had chosen to be an oasis farmer. His brother, on the other hand, chose a profession drilling in the oil fields of Russia.

The Uighurs are known to be proud and independent people. They are isolated enough to preserve their simple life style, but they have extracted qualities from other cultures. Uighur literally means “allied,” and these nomadic people have been an important tie between China and the rest of the world. As caravan drivers they transported Chinese goods along the Silk Road, and have thus been heavily influenced by Russians as well as other Central Asian peoples. As a result, almost all of them are bilingual. Though most Uighurs live in China, some live in Russia. Despite their population of over 11 million, they have no country of their own.

Islam is their dominant religion. The Bible has been translated into their language, and Christian radio broadcasts and the JESUS Film are available in languages they can understand.
