God went on to reveal to Habakkuk that He planned to use the ruthless Babylonians as His instrument of punishment for the degenerate nation of Judah. At first, Habakkuk protested that God’s strategy seemed to condone the Babylonians’ violence and arrogance. It still seems today that often God is silent “while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves” (1:13). But as we watch the ebb and flow of international affairs, we can be confident that God is wisely and fairly working out His purposes until “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (2:14).
Father, we praise You that Your Word will indeed be fulfilled so that all peoples on earth may know of Your love.
In the northern Nigerian state of Yode, there are about 250,000 Bade (Bedde or Bede) speaking people. Their pre-eminent traditional ruler is Mai Bade, who is also the main Islamic authority and a powerful political leader. He holds vast power, and none of the Bade people can overrule his decisions.
Most Bade speaking people are able to make a good living through farming, fishing, raising livestock and mining minerals such as quartz and gypsum. Recently the Mai Bade has started a program to promote tourism into the rich Bade-Nguru wetland reserve. Another developing attraction is to promote the Bade fishing festival, similar to one in Argungu, Nigeria. There, thousands of fishermen jump into a muddy stream to catch fish using their bare hands and nets!
No established church or Bible translation exists in the Bade language or dialects. Only about two percent of the Bade people have been contacted with the gospel message. The vast majority of Bade people are Muslims, and this will not change until their leader is more favorable to Christ and His Word, the Bible.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the Mai Bade will be reached through Christ’s ambassadors so that he will allow his people to accept God’s teaching from the Bible. Pray that God will open doors to reach Bade people through tourism and through Christian Nigerians. May these Islamic people soon enjoy the abundant life promised by Jesus by repenting and accepting His ways.-PD
