In yesterday’s text (Amos 3:2) God emphasized Israel’s uniqueness-her special privilege and responsibility. Today we read of Israel’s similarity to the surrounding nations. Special privilege and a special commission did not exempt the people of God from spiritual accountability, and God reminded Israel through the prophet Amos that He is absolute ruler over the affairs of all nations of the earth. Such a reminder should lead us too-Abraham’s spiritual descendants-to live in reverential obedience to the living God.
Father, we humbly confess our accountability to You. Rule in our hearts, we pray.
Give thanksgiving and praise to the Lord for what He is doing among the Sokoto Fulanis! While they are 99.9 percent Muslim, tremendous breakthroughs are being reported by one mission agency working among them. Two missionaries had the opportunity to meet with 18 men who had vague knowledge of Jesus and wanted to hear His story. The missionaries gladly complied, and all 18 accepted the Lord. They are now being discipled. In another instance, while visiting with new Sokoto friends, missionaries gave testimony of how their lives with Jesus gave them much peace and joy, and how the Sokotos could have the same blessings. The missionaries explained that following Jesus could result in their ostracism, but two of the three committed their lives to Christ. The next day two of their friends also accepted the Lord.
While the Holy Spirit moves, the evil one is also skulking around among the Sokotos. The ruling class Sokoto, while in charge of the Muslim faith and much of the government, is widely rumored to be involved in mishandling of funds, blackmail, assassination, and abduction.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that Satan’s efforts among the Sokotos will backfire. Pray that the fire of the Holy Spirit will sweep the land, using the few Sokoto believers for His glory.-PE
