According to the customs in the Ancient Near East, each group of people lived in the service of their own god, whom they worshiped and served in exchange for his protection and blessing. Nebuchadnezzar himself acknowledged Marduk as his god. The defeat of Judah had supposedly marked their God as a lesser deity, unworthy of worship by the mightier king of Babylon. However, through the faithful testimony of Daniel and his friends, Nebuchadnezzar was confronted with the glory and power of Yahweh, God of Judah and God of the nations. In this case God used the interpretation of dreams to reveal Himself to the great king. Later He used other demonstrations of His great power to convince Nebuchadnezzar and others of His supremacy.
Father, use the faithful service of Your children to reveal Your power and love to the mighty of our day.
“I lift up my eyes to the hills-where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1,2, NIV. The Nuba mountains cover an area of roughly 3600 square miles in the southern area of Sudan. They range in elevation from 1500 to 3000 feet above the ambient plain.
The Lafofa people are a matrilineal group, meaning that the family name is handed down from the mother’s side. About 700 of them live within this mountain range. Their unique language, Lafofa, seems to be dying out, with its primary users being in their middle years. Arabic is replacing it among the younger generation. This has been largely due to the influence of the Sudanese government, which is trying to Arabize the peoples of Sudan. It is also a reflection of Muslim thinking, which has been forcibly put upon the Lafofa people. For many years, the Lafofas have suffered under rogue regimes and oppression by the Muslim north.
There has been no active church planting among the Lafofa people for over two years. No part of the Bible is available in their language.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the Lord would send more workers into this area of the Nuba Mountains to spread His Word and care for the suffering Lafofa people. Pray that the Lafofas will soon put their trust in the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.-JR
