Though a wise and wealthy king, Solomon also set Israel on the path of destruction. His wisdom was no substitute for holiness or attention to the law. His accumulation of horses and chariots, silver and gold, and wives and concubines were in direct disobedience to the commands of Moses (Deuteronomy 17:14-20). The Golden Age of Israel would soon give way to confusion, decay, and widespread idolatry. How do we handle the blessings and opportunities God gives? As occasions for advancing our purposes? Or chances to further His desires?
Father, we recognize that to whom much is given, much is required. Teach us to handle our abundance with faithfulness.
Did you know that there is a Muslim sect that is heavily involved with community development? They are known as the Aga Khanis, and they number over 15 million people and live in 25 countries. Their leader, Prince Karim Aga Khan, became their leader when he was 20 years old in 1956. He could retire, but he keeps on working relentlessly to bring social justice and peace on earth through his Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), which he started when he became the leader.
The AKDN has branches in 12 countries. Its principal goal is to serve the Ismaili Muslim communities through education, medical services, economic development, and culture. Its services have expanded to improve opportunities and living conditions for the weakest in Islamic society. AKDN works with national and international agencies. Prince Khan believes that if Islamic countries will focus on improving the needs of their people, then issues like civil wars and terrorism will become less prevalent.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will open ways for Christians to reach out to Islamic leaders such as Prince Khan, in order to help them meet the needs of their people in the way that God desires. Pray that there will be openings for this prince and other Muslim leaders to see that the true answers to life’s problems are anchored in God’s message in the Bible. Pray that these Muslim leaders will respond.-PD
