Josh. 24:15
"Then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve"

Choice is a great privilege-and a fearful responsibility. The greatest choice any individual or group will ever make is which god it will serve. In days in which “personal freedom” is exalted over all virtues, the call to serve another sounds like foolishness. Yet even when carnal men think themselves most free, they find themselves in bondage to lust, greed or material possessions. Scripture reminds us that God has created people for Himself, to love and serve Him. If we reject God and worship someone or something else, bondage results. When we serve God wholeheartedly, we experience freedom. In the words of a hymn, “Make me a captive, Lord, and then I shall be free. Force me to render up my sword and I shall conqueror be.”

Lord, give us hearts that are willing to make choices that honor You.

Christian work among Muslims

Many think of Hindus when they think of India, but there are also many Muslims in certain areas, such as the state of Andhra Pradesh. One Islamic source states, “Historically, Christian missionaries have not registered much success in Muslim countries. Even in India the number of converts to Christianity from Islam has been only a trickle when compared to the flood of converts from Hinduism and animistic tribal traditions.” The source goes on to describe strategies used by missionaries to win Muslim converts: “The strategy seems to be to prove from the Koran itself that Christianity is the ‘true’ religion….” It is true that the Muslim mission field is a difficult one, and many evangelists are using the Koran to prove the truth about Jesus.

One mission agency, unnamed for security reasons, has found success through its literature program and its community centers. These centers particularly address women’s issues. They have addressed the importance of women in society and how God can add meaning and importance to their lives. The purpose of a recent women’s conference was to help the participants to know the biblical understanding of the role of women in Christ and to expose them to the condition of women in India in order to enable them to be effective in transforming their communities.

Pray for more workers for Muslim outreach and more community centers in neighboring cities. Pray that God will direct the efforts of this agency as they reach out to Muslims in India.-JS
