When the 12 spies went into the land of Canaan, most came back with a negative report, full of fear and discouragement. Ten spies somehow forgot that God had already promised to give them the land. Instead they evaluated their chance for success in terms of their own abilities and resources. This temptation to look at circumstances from an earthly perspective is very natural-and dangerous. We have far more than our own strength to count on; we can depend on the resources and promises of Almighty God.
Father, deliver us from the “grasshopper complex.” Help us to see possibilities for world evangelization in light of Your completely adequate resources.
Where am I? Sheila thought upon awakening. Then she remembered her 13th birthday had happened yesterday, and she had left her family to move into the “sathram.” She looked around the large tent where many girls were sleeping on mats. A fire burned in the middle of the tent. Elderly women guarded the girls, as elderly men guarded the separate “sathram” where young men of marriageable age stayed. Someday she would hide in the forest until some prospective bridegrooms came to seek her. She would bring turmeric water with her to sprinkle on the bridegroom who found her first. They would be married.
The Mannons live as their ancestors have for centuries. The JESUS Film ministry visited some of the main areas several years ago, and tribal people heard about Christ for the first time. However, follow-up never happened because transportation and communication were so difficult. Mountains stand around the Mannon villages like fortresses. Yet, they cannot keep our prayers from entering and drawing people to Christ.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
