Gen. 20:11
"Abraham replied, 'I said to myself, there is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.'"

Abraham did not instantly understand what it meant for him to be a blessing and a light to the nations. In this chapter, we see him compromising the truth about Sarah, hiding the fact that she was his wife. Abraham’s half-truth very nearly brought judgment instead of blessing on Abimelech and his people! Think of the fellowship they could have had, if Abraham would have realized how sensitive Abimelech was to God (20:6)!

Master, we confess that we are often more concerned about the prosperity of our nation, our church, and our family than about sharing the Good News with the nations. Use us, as You have blessed us, to be a blessing!

-Jogi of India

The cobra sways, rises, flares his hood and flicks his tongue. He responds to the tune of the snake charmer’s flute. This is how some Jogis support themselves while following their strict Hindu beliefs. Not all snake charmers are Jogis and not all Jogis are snake charmers. Some Jogis play drums, others sing ritual songs, still other Jogi groups use other means to gain support.

Traveling from town to town, Jogis traditionally practiced self-denial. They renounced family and worldly life. They had no permanent home and wore animal skins. Possessions amounted only to a string of beads and a few other items. Because of this ascetic life, these Hindus considered themselves among the most holy. Other Hindus still seek their help for many reasons.

Because Jogis are seen as holy and belong to such an exclusive group, they remain closed to the gospel of Christ. They believe in the power of their spiritual practices but have not discovered the life-changing power of Jesus.

Pray that God would raise up harvest workers to minister to the Jogis. Pray that God would create spiritual dissatisfaction among the Jogis and that He would give them a thirst for the true power and righteousness of Christ.-EF
