Rev. 2:4
"Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love"

These familiar words of the Lord Jesus to the church at Ephesus should serve as a strong warning to us, particularly to those of us who have known Christ for some time. It is so easy to become complacent in the Lord’s service, going through the motions but having lost the zeal and fervor which characterized our early experience with Him. Many young people can show us the way. Their earnest love for the Lord Jesus is expressed in their unreserved willingness to serve Him in the frontier missions movement, regardless of the cost. Pray for these zealous young people, many of whom are going to difficult fields of service in North Africa, the Middle East, India, China, and Southeast Asia.

Pray that their great love for Jesus will stimulate the rest of us to follow Him with our whole hearts and lives.

Ladakhi People of India

“Hot as Hell” is not an expression the Ladakhi people of Northwestern India would use. Because the people living in the high Himalayan Mountains long for warm weather, they believe that hell is a miserably cold place. Little rainfall, no more than three inches a year, contributes to their difficult life, but an even greater threat is unemployment, called “the silent bomb” by one writer. Many a youth is educated but unemployed. Some call Ladakh a paradise between earth and sky because of its spectacular scenery, but it is not a paradise for Ladakhi unemployed youth. They don’t have jobs to make a living in this paradise.

Traditionally the Ladakhi are Tibetan Buddhists, but they still differ significantly from their counterparts in Tibet. Their Buddhism is mixed with beliefs in ferocious demons from their pre-Buddhist Bon religion. There have been Christian witnesses to the Ladakhi, first in the 8th century and then later in the 17th century from a Portuguese Catholic priest. Later in 1856 the Moravians began work there, and they continue to minister to the Ladakhi and have been joined by several mission groups from other parts of India. The Ladakhi do have portions of Scripture, gospel recordings, and the JESUS Film available to them.

Pray that as Christian agencies share the gospel message with the Ladakhi people that they would also be creative in developing employment opportunities for them.-JS
