It seems unfair that we in the Western world would have such spiritual resources at our disposal while almost half of the world is not only non-Christian, but is hidden from the outreach of the Church. Is God unjust? Even as God used Pharaoh to help proclaim His Name, so He has used present-day rulers to bring glory to Himself. For example, there are indications that the Church in Iran has grown tremendously among certain people groups-especially after the Islamic Revolution!
Praise God for His sovereignty and justice!
“What do you know about America?” Kassim asked at the beginning of a recent orientation class for Somalia refugees who were preparing to go to the United States. Some students yelled out their answers. “It’s a superpower.” “If anyone bothers me, I just call 911 and the police come and beat them up.” “Food is already cooked when you buy it.” “Life is easy. There is television and cars.” “They have that cold white stuff called snow, which I’m very afraid of!” Kassim turned to his American assistant and muttered, “There is so much to teach them in such a short time. One of the biggest problems is dispelling their inflated ideas about life in America.”
There are an estimated 40,000 Somali refugees in the United States. You can find most of them in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Lexington, Kentucky; and some cities in Maine. These people have endured great suffering in their country as a result of civil wars, lawlessness, famine, and disease. They are culturally Islamic, but many feel discouraged and empty spiritually. American church teams have been effective in helping these refugees by assisting them with housing, job searches, medical needs, emotional support, and education.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that through Christian efforts these people will come to know Christ and accept His lordship in their lives. May those who respond to Christian witness give the good news of hope to Somalis in America and in Somalia.-PD
