Acts 11:18
"When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, 'So then, God has even granted the Gentiles repentance unto life.'"

Those in Jerusalem who questioned Peter about his experience with the Gentiles in Caesarea were finally convinced. The gospel was for the Gentiles, too! Amazing! Yet how distressingly difficult it was for them to believe this simple truth. Peter had to recount his three visions as well as the dramatic outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Cornelius’ household before they were convinced. They slowly came to understand that God’s redemptive plan for all the nations is central to His gracious character. Their eyes had previously been closed to this wonderful truth.

Lord, break through our prejudices and fears. Open our eyes and our hearts to love others as You love them.

Tavy Teva people of Paraguay

The Tavy Teva people of Paraguay believe the mountain called Cerro Guazu is the home of the gods, the center of the world and the primeval place of the original cosmos. They have an elaborate cosmology about the earth’s origin, its people and everything that exists. Like many other Indian tribes, the Tavy Teva people aim to live in spiritual harmony with the land. Careful management of their animals and of the forest has deep religious significance. They believe that the gods are the owners of everything. For this reason the Tavy Teva tribe performs rituals to maintain harmony between man and the gods, and between themselves and nature.

The group or community is very important; men work together to clear a hill or to herd animals. Women who live near Paraguayan towns sell medicinal herbs or hand made goods in small stores. They also raise hens and ducks. Portions of the Bible have been translated into their dialect of Guarani, but the work is far from complete.
