John 10:11
"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep."

Few people, including the disciples before the Day of Pentecost, clearly understood the reasons behind Jesus’ crucifixion. A major emphasis of Christ’s ministry was to show the Jews that He came to redeem the despised Gentiles as well as the Jews. This passage in John 10 clearly points to Jesus’ death for both the Jews and the Gentiles (v. 16).

Father, Your heart is a Shepherd’s heart, and we experience Your love and care daily. Remind us each day to pray for those unreached peoples who still have no opportunity to become part of Your flock. Fill our hearts with Your love for them!

Buddhist Burmese People in Europe

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:6-7, NIV).

What a precious gift peace is! What a treasure that Buddhists seek with all their hearts! In Myanmar, a Buddhist country in southeast Asia, there is no peace, and there will never be any until their military dictatorship ends. Many Burmese have had to flee for their lives, and some end up in western Europe. Because Myanmar was once a British colony, most of them are found in the U.K., though they also live in other countries as well.

Members of the Burmese Diaspora are doing all they can to pressure their governments to change their ways. Many are concerned that the European Union’s Parliament, based in Brussels, is reconsidering its visa ban on high-ranking government and military officials from Myanmar. The possibility has brought many Burmese refugees to the streets of Brussels to protest.

Meanwhile, the ethnic Burmese in Europe are in the process of learning new languages, and learning to dress and think like Europeans. However they also want to maintain their old culture, and they mistakenly think that they must retain Buddhism to do this.
