The angels, Mary, and Zechariah had heralded the coming King. Now Simeon, too, praised God that the birth of baby Jesus revealed a salvation prepared in the sight of all peoples. Luke uses the word ‘peoples’ in the plural to denote the scope of this baby’s ministry. Jesus would not only touch the lives of many individual people, but would also bring light to all peoples and nations-Jew and Gentile alike.
Glorious Lord, we too praise You that Your salvation extends to the ends of the earth!
In the past 50 years, there has been a large migration of members of the Sikh religion from India to other countries. There have been workshops in Scandinavian universities to help people understand the Sikhs and the challenges they face. This can be a complex issue. One student in Denmark was found guilty of carrying a six-inch “kirpan” (dagger). How can officials allow one student to carry a dangerous weapon yet forbid others? And how can officials forbid a Sikh to follow religious beliefs that require him to carry a weapon to “defend the defenseless” and still say their country is culturally tolerant and has religious freedom? The issues are difficult!
Sikhs from Denmark and Sweden have had opportunities to share their faith and construct a Sikh temple. Some Danish and Swedish students are interested in learning more about Sikhism. It will take the intervention of God to create interest among the Sikhs to learn about Christ as savior.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the Holy Spirit will create a hunger in the Sikh people’s hearts. Ask God to send loving Christians to share their faith in a clear manner. Pray for the protection of European youths, so they will not be lured into religions that do not focus on Jesus.-AK
