Zechariah’s prophecy was pointing to a work God was doing in fulfillment of His promise to Abraham, that through him and his descendants (including the Lord Jesus) all nations on earth would be blessed. By faith in Jesus we have received both the blessing and the obligation to bless others. God’s intent and purpose in fulfilling His oath to Abraham is that some from every people group, including Buddhists, Muslims, Chinese, Hindus, and animists, would be able to share in the blessings of redemption.
Father, we don’t want to settle for anything less than Your highest and best. Keep us pressing forward in holiness and commitment to Your mission.
Little Rahime trudges into her home after school, muttering something under her breath. “Hello, dear,” her mother says. “What are you muttering about?” At first Rahime doesn’t respond. Asked again, she explains, “I’m trying to memorize my Tatar vocabulary words, so I can be the first in class to learn them all.” “What a great idea! I’m so proud of you. May I help you review?” For the first time since she got home, Rahime meets her mother’s eyes, and a big smile dawns on her face.
Rahime has just returned from “school-after-school” where she learns her parents’ native Turkic Tatar language and studies Tatar culture, religion and history. For five generations, the Tatars in Finland have carefully preserved their heritage.
Ancestors of present-day Tatars came to Finland from Russia from the 1870s through the 1920s. By 1925, they formed their first Islamic congregation. Today, a small but cohesive group of 800 Tatars live mostly in and around Helsinki. They are a Turkic people who espouse the Muslim faith and form a well-established and homogeneous religious, cultural, and linguistic minority.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the Lord would reveal Himself to the Tatars of Finland. Pray that he would plant a desire for truth in their hearts, and that they would discover another language, the language of God’s love.-JWS
