We are already witnessing the first fruits of this promise. Two-thirds World brothers and sisters now serve shoulder-to-shoulder with missionaries from Western nations. Concerts of prayer for world evangelization have begun around the globe. More people use this Prayer Digest in Chinese, Korean, and Spanish than in English. These encouraging signs are but a glimpse of the day in which all peoples will be represented in the service of praise at the marriage supper of the Lamb.
Father, what a privilege it is to witness Your work in Your Church. Fulfill these beginnings until the day we sing Your praises in absolute purity and harmony.
Fear for survival can motivate a person’s or group’s reaction to recurring threats to independence. Time and again a large ethnic group living in the rugged terrain of the picturesque Caucasus Mountains has chosen to struggle against repeated assaults to their independence. The Sunni Muslim Dargin speakers of northern Dagestan throughout their centuries of existence have fought against other people groups swarming over their land. For the past several decades, the invaders have been Russians. Their Dagestani homeland is now part of southern Russia. Though Dagestan was once a bastion of conservative Islam, the communists weakened the peoples’ Islamic ways.
Once breeders of cattle, they are now agriculturists. Late in 2001, however, these 429,000 plus Dargins were threatened with a flying menace-the invasion of a billion ravenous flying locusts, the worst plague in their area in 40 years. With only an unimpressive presence of 26 Dargin Christian believers at that time, prayer to avert this disaster seemed to make very little difference. But there is now one Christian agency targeting the Dargin people.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will use this agency and the few Dargin believers to extend His hands of mercy to the Dargin people. Pray that their efforts will be unusually effective in their gospel presentation.-MC
