Sennacherib and the Assyrian army had laid siege to the walls of Jerusalem, and when their army officials taunted King Hezekiah and his God in a written message, Hezekiah went to the Temple and spread out the scroll before the Lord in prayer. And for what did he ask? For deliverance, yes, but deliverance with a purpose-so that all kingdoms on earth, including the Assyrians, would know that only Jehovah is God. How often do we, when pressed by adversity or personal need, ask God to further His purposes among the nations by meeting our needs?
Lord God, we commit to You the crises in our lives. Answer our prayers in ways that will glorify You among the nations.
Pain showed on the face of the Bambara villager in Mali. At least the intensity of his toothache had little effect on his legs and his desire to learn to read. He had trudged over the uneven paths to the dental clinic. Before his other wants could be met he needed the dentist’s help.
It was quite awhile before this man could join the other Bambara men listening to Bible stories and learning to read them for themselves. Already some of them were stretched out on the ground snoozing as the voice of the reader droned on. The heat and work of the day left them too tired to stay awake. But dental clinics like this offer Christian dentists and Bambara believers assisting them a wonderful opportunity to share the gospel with the patients.
Most of the Bambaras are farmers and every Bambara village has many different family units. Each household or “gwa” provides for all of its members and helps them with their farming duties. Most of them claim to be Muslims while continuing their traditional ancestor worship.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that entire “gwas” will turn their allegiance to Jesus, and worship Him alone. Pray for God to thrust forth more people with dental skills to minister to the Bambaras and other unreached people groups.-MC
