Ps. 127:1
"Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain"

World evangelization is the Lord’s work. He is “building a people” for Himself from every tribe, tongue, and nation. The Church is that people, who are also His laborers, His watchmen, His “channels of blessing” for all “nations.” But the Church must be careful how it builds, lest it build in its own strength and not according to God’s “blueprints.” Let us therefore be sure to keep our eyes fixed on the Master Builder, Jesus, and His work. For we know our labor in the Lord is not in vain (cf. 1 Corinthians 15:58).

Heavenly Father, as we approach the new year, we renew our commitment to be Your witnesses. Build through us “a church for every people!”

Beja People of Sudan and Eritrea

Roger drove his jeep across the rock-strewn dirt road, past miles of barren desert. The road to the Beja homeland, which straddled the Eritrean/Sudan border, was long and dangerous. As he crossed the unmarked border into Sudan, Roger heard the distant rattle of machine gun fire. That told him the Beja rebels had once again clashed with the Sudanese Army. Roger, a Christian aid worker, said a quick prayer for protection for himself and for these people he had grown to love. There weren’t many willing to reach out to a people group living in such a dangerous place.

There are only 12 known Christians among the Beja people of Sudan and Eritrea. Education and medical care are almost unknown among these people who mix Islam and traditional religion. Shortages of food and water in the Beja’s desert homeland add to an already high death rate exacerbated by war. There is an open door for community development workers to reach out to the Bejas.

May God raise up faithful community development workers to reach out to this people group for Christ. Pray that a written script will be developed for the Beja language. Then the Bible can be translated into Beja and this people group can be taught to read the message of salvation. Pray also for the restoration of peace, so missionaries can safely reach out to this people group. Pray that the Beja people will crave fellowship with the Prince of Peace.-WK
