A “kingdom of priests”: this was what God intended the descendants of Abraham to be. God stated this purpose very clearly in this preamble to their national constitution, the Mosaic covenant. Again He used terms similar to those of the Abrahamic Covenant (see Genesis 12:1-3). Priests were to be mediators or “go-betweens” between sinful man and God. God not only chose one of the twelve tribes to be the priests for the entire nation, He also chose the entire nation to serve as a priestly nation to bring all the people groups of the world to Himself. We know that God expects His Church to serve the same purpose in the world today (see 1 Peter 2:9).
What joy, O Lord, to be used of You to bring the nations to Your feet. Help us glorify You as we pray and give and go.
Mathematics is an important subject to the Marwadi people, so let us start this story with some long division. There are over 10 million Marwadi people, most of whom live in Rajasthan, a state in northwest India. Out of these, there are probably between 2,500 and 10,000 who have put their faith in Christ. That means that at most one in 1,000 is a believer!
Math is important to these people because they work with money. There is no way to turn a profit without knowing math. Somewhere near the middle of India’s caste system, Marwadis act as moneylenders, merchants, traders, and brokers. Some people consider Marwadis greedy, unscrupulous and dishonest. Others consider them frugal, temperate and hard-working. Wherever the truth lies, it is certain that on the whole they are successful money managers. They are a close-knit people and do not marry into other groups of people.
Most Marwadis follow either the Hindu or Jain religion. Each community normally builds a temple to the god Parasnath, with each family contributing a certain amount to the building and maintenance of the temple.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the existing Christians would reach out to other Marwadis within their caste as Christ’s ambassadors. Pray that these professional trading people would trade their inanimate god for the one true living God.-JWS
