Once more God repeats His covenant to Abraham’s son, Isaac, and later again to Abraham’s grandson, Jacob. God is so identified with this covenant that the great exclusive name for Him (Jehovah or Yahweh) is understood by some biblical scholars to mean “the covenant-keeping God.” In His covenant, God wanted His people to know both the blessings He planned for them and the responsibilities He expected of them. Unfortunately His people soon forgot their responsibilities and hoarded their blessings.
Father, we do not want to selfishly enjoy our salvation while neglecting the lost sheep whom You also love. Help us to wisely use Your wonderful blessings to bless all the peoples of the world.
Nine-year-old Mahila’s eyes grew wide with horror as her mother explained what she was expected do. “But, I don’t want to be a prostitute!” she wailed. “If you want to live and have something to eat you must do it. I have no husband to take care of us,” her mother replied with downcast eyes.
Mahila lives in the Bihar State of northern India. Bihar is perhaps India’s most impoverished state. Women are held in less regard than a family cow. At mealtime the mother must serve the husband and children, eating only what remains when the meal is over.
Out of the 18 million Bihari people only about 20 individuals are known to be Christian. All the rest practice a form of folk-Islam mixed with a few Hindu practices. Lack of opportunity, unsanitary conditions, struggle, and starvation are the symptoms of this spiritually sick region.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray urgently that the powers and principalities over this region be bound and the Holy Spirit be loosed to sweep this place clean and fill it with Christ’s gospel of hope and abundant life. Pray that the few believers be transformed into beacons of light and that missionaries will be called and respond with fervor to tell them the good news. Pray that many of Bihar’s least reached will respond and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.-PE
