Heb. 6:16-17
"... Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath."

God promised Abraham that he would receive blessings and that he in turn would become a blessing to all the families of the earth. After Abraham had demonstrated his faithfulness to the Lord in offering his son Isaac (Genesis 22), God confirmed the promise with an oath. This is the event referred to by the writer of Hebrews, who affirms that the reason for the oath was to make the “unchanging nature of his purpose very clear.” God is committed by oath to bless His people and through them to bless every family (people group) of the earth.

Father, thank You for making Your purposes so clear to us, heirs of the promise to Abraham.

Central Thai people

The Central Thai people call themselves the Khon Thai, meaning “the free people.” They inhabit the rich central plain of Thailand, including Bangkok. This is the dominant people group in the nation. They love their country and have a very strong national identity. Politeness and respect are virtues of the Central Thai people. They especially respect the elderly and those with high rank.

While the official religion of most Central Thais is Buddhism, what they actually practice is a mixture of Buddhism, animism and ancestor worship. Out of approximately 28 million Central Thai worldwide, there are only about 100,000 known Christians. After nearly 500 years of missionary work, the church in Thailand is still very small. The largest barriers to Central Thais coming to faith in Jesus are their fear of/allegiance to society and their familiarity and comfort with Buddhism. They simply see no need for change.

Pray that the Lord would bring the Central Thai people into situations where they recognize the promises of their religion prove to be false. Pray that Central Thai Buddhists will see the difference between a living faith in Christ and Buddhist beliefs. Pray that the Holy Spirit will give Central Thai people the courage to embrace Christ no matter what the cost.-JR
