Jesus clearly said, “No man can serve two masters…you cannot serve God and mammon (which means gain or advantage).” God created us with a need to love Him. When we turn from loving God as a central focus in life, we try to fill that void by devoting our love to something far less worthy than the Lord. And whatever we love that is less than God soon becomes “god” to us. If we substitute the love of money for the love of God, we open ourselves to a myriad of sorrows and disappointments.
Father, keep us from greed. Fill our hearts with love for You, our Provider and Sustainer, and with commitment to Your purposes.
Fear can lead to strange actions! The government of Myanmar ordered thousands of government office personnel to prepare to move 200 miles away with just two days notice, according to a “Los Angeles Times” article. Fearing a siege by the United States of their former capital city, Rangoon, the Burmese-dominated military regime of Myanmar ordered its government workers to pack up their offices and be ready to move south to a new capital in Pyinmana. No worker was allowed to resign.
Some think that Myanmar’s military ruler, Than Shive, chose this small remote town for the new site because he believed astrologers’ predictions that his power would end last April. He spent thousands of dollars to increase the government’s security by building a fortress city. It’s very possible that he also chose this centrally located and less populated town so the government could better monitor the rebellious Shan, Chin and Karin states, which do not have a Burmese Buddhist majority.
The Burmese are the dominant people group in Myanmar. Though some other people groups in that country have accepted Christ, the Burmese majority remains solidly Buddhist.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will send dedicated believers to Pyinmana to proclaim the gospel of spiritual peace to the Buddhist Burmese people.-MC
